We have 3 different Blues Hosts, each with their own unique band, for a dynamic night of Live Blues, a fresh show each week.
Meet our Jam Hosts
Jon Gale:
Howlin' Jon Gale - Vocals and Guitar - Howlin’ Jon has been a fixture on the local blues scene for the past 2 decades. Exposed to Chicago Blues in the mid 60’s while in his teens, he knew that blues would been his genre of choice. Howlin’ formed the Gale Force Blues Band 15 years ago and it has been performing on a regular basis around the lower mainland. In recent years he has hosted blues jams at local venues as well as on the Legendary Rhythm and Blues Cruise. Jon often performs in California and Florida and has done a number of performances with the Seattle based Randy Oxford Band. He has had the honour to share the stage with blues luminaries such as Tab Benoit, Tommy Castro, Deanna Bogart and Mr. Sipp.
Don Jones:
Don has been rooted in the local blues scene in Vancouver since the late 1960's where he cut his teeth in local Soul and R&B bands.
In the mid 1980's Don, and 2 other local musicians, started the Blues Brothers tribute band "Wired", a 10 pce horn infused party band that regularly played the local A room circuit. During that time he met, and shared the stage, with a few celebrities such as Rick Danko (The Band) and Joe Walsh (The Eagles), After “Wired” he followed that by playing in the 11pce Tower of Power Tribute Band, “What Is Hip” and an R&B horn infused band with 3 female singers called, “The Van Divas”.
In 2008 Don formed his band Indigo as a house band to back up local celebrity singers at a local Night Club but, quickly moved on to playing many of the local venues around the Metro Vancouver area. Then, in 2009, Don and Indigo began to host a regular Sunday night jam session at the now defunct Marine Pub in Burnaby where, during the 5 years the Indigo jam was at the Marine Pub, the Indigo Jam was voted by BC living Magazine, as one of the top 10 things to do in B.C.
In 2014 and 2015, Indigo was the backup band for musicians, Kal David and Lauri Bono (John Mayall, Bette Midler, Etta James, and many others) when Kal and Lauri came North to play
Gregg Gorrie:
Gregg Gorrie has had a multi-faceted career in the music business. He cut his musical teeth on guitar learning from the recordings of early blues/rock guitarists such as Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix, Ritchie Blackmore, Peter Green etc. and spent a decade performing with numerous bands working the bar, nightclub, and one-nighter circuits throughout Western Canada. In the early 80’s, he put together a sound & lighting production company, providing sound mixing and technical services to scores of bands and venues. This led to a 20+ year career as an audio instructor at a local arts college. In the last decade Gregg has split his time performing as a solo act, teaching guitar, recording and producing in his home studio, and running a number of successful open mics/jams throughout the Vancouver area.
Together with the rock solid rhythm section of Rod Senft and Trevor Newman, G.R.T. brings close to a century’s worth of collective live performing experience to the Donegal’s Blues Jam.
